Hummingbird'smicrosite:Poweringanationwidepromotion

Hummingbird Coffee ran a national draw with daily prizes for customers and charities. Working with our friends Multipied, we built the microsite and admin portal for the successful promotion.

About the project

Hummingbird Coffee is a speciality coffee brand throughout New Zealand. With a history of supporting worthy causes, the brand was looking to deliver a ‘1000 for you, 1000 for charity’ national promotion prize draw, followed by a second chance prize draw one month later.

Running across September to December 2023, each Hummingbird Coffee pack was tagged with a unique promotional code. The customer would submit the code on the website, or scan the QR code. For each entry, one lucky winner per day was selected to win $1000 cash and $1000 for a charity too. In total, $28k was up for grabs for customers and Hummingbirds’ selected charity partnerships.

What we did

This was a collaborative project; our friends at the creative agency Multiplied managed the promotion and we supported the technical delivery of the website. We developed a simple promotional microsite, and the back-end system to handle the prize draw functionality. This was backed up with an administration portal to allow the daily prize draw winners to be selected.

We used a bespoke domain, linked to the main Hummingbird coffee website during the promotion. We took the promotion’s artwork, and through our front-end development skills, we brought this to life. For consistency, we matched the recognisable Hummingbird brown, white, and ochre brand styling across the main competition page and the Frequently Asked Questions page too.

The results

The promotion received an impressive 35,000 entries. Picking the winners each day was a breeze. Overall the promotion was so successful, that it’s set to become an annual thing. So look out for the code on your next pack!
