As Tauranga Crossing prepared for the major expansion of its physical shopping centre, it needed a digital platform with advanced capabilities to match. The original 2016 website had performed well, but the goal was to create a truly aspirational digital experience that would improve customer engagement and support a growing number of retailers.

Working with a marketing team of one, they needed a partner who could not only build a beautiful, highly functional website but also provide technical support and innovation.

    Deep Discovery and UX Strategy

    Our process began with a deep dive into the original website brief and existing customer research. We conducted competitive benchmarking and, crucially, we interviewed Tauranga Crossing's on-the-ground teams to understand the real questions customers were asking. This insight informed our user journey mapping, which we then translated into live prototypes to define the site's information architecture, focusing on key areas like store listings and cinema information.

    Custom Development and Smart Integrations

    Our developers executed a custom WordPress build, hosted on a robust AWS cloud infrastructure. The build included several pieces of custom functionality to create a rich user experience, including integrating mapping software for interactive indoor mapping and connecting to an API-driven event feed to display live movie information. The customised WordPress backend was designed to make managing a large number of stores, promotions, and events simple for the marketing team.

    Expanding the Digital and Physical Experience

    The partnership evolved beyond the initial website launch. Dynamo6 subsequently worked with Tauranga Crossing to upgrade their in-centre and online mapping experience to the more advanced Mappedin platform. This project showcased a much wider range of skills, as it required not only updating the website's front-end but also developing new APIs to feed store and offer data into the Mappedin system. Dynamo6 also managed the procurement, build, and configuration of the physical in-mall kiosk hardware.
