Hummingbird's Microsite: Powering a Nationwide Promotion

Dynamo6 partnered with creative agency Multiplied to deliver the technology for Hummingbird Coffee's successful '1000 for you, 1000 for charity' national promotion. We built a bespoke promotional microsite and a secure back-end administration portal to manage the daily prize draws, which received over 35,000 entries.

Hummingbird Coffee is a speciality coffee brand throughout New Zealand with a history of supporting worthy causes. The brand was looking to deliver a ‘1000 for you, 1000 for charity’ national promotion.

Running from September to December 2023, each Hummingbird Coffee pack was tagged with a unique promotional code. Customers could submit the code on a bespoke website or scan a QR code to enter. For each entry, one lucky winner per day was selected to win $1000 cash and $1000 for a charity, with $28k in total up for grabs. They needed a technical partner to build a simple, reliable, and secure digital platform that could handle thousands of entries and allow for easy administration of daily winner selection.

What we did

This was a collaborative project where our friends at Multiplied managed the promotion, and we supported the technical delivery of the website. We developed a simple promotional microsite and the back-end system to handle the prize draw functionality. This was backed up with an administration portal to allow the daily prize draw winners to be selected.

We used a bespoke domain linked to the main Hummingbird Coffee website. We took the promotion’s artwork, and through our front-end development skills, we brought this to life. For consistency, we matched the recognisable Hummingbird brown, white, and ochre brand styling across the main competition page and the Frequently Asked Questions page.

The results

The promotion was a massive success for Hummingbird Coffee, achieving significant customer engagement and providing a seamless experience for administrators. The key results highlight the campaign's impressive reach and flawless execution:

  • Over 35,000 entries were received, demonstrating huge customer participation.

  • $28,000 in total cash prizes were awarded, with one lucky winner and their chosen charity receiving a prize each day.
