Hansa's Global Multisite: Powering International Growth

As a family-owned manufacturer of high-quality wood chippers, Hansa Products had a strong reputation in New Zealand. However, as they expanded into Australia and Europe, their 10-year-old Silverstripe website no longer reflected their premium brand or met the needs of a modern, integrated digital marketing plan. It lacked a clear user journey and wasn't compliant with international regulations like GDPR.

Hansa needed a new website that would present them as an international brand, cater to multiple languages, and make it easy for their five distinct customer segments—from lifestylers to commercial arborists and hire centres—to explore their products.

    Discovery and UX Strategy

    Our process began with a deep discovery phase, running workshops with Hansa's owner and regional country managers. We analysed their existing research to understand the unique user journeys for each customer segment in each market. This led to an iterative process of defining the site's information architecture and navigation, moving from a blog-and-news focus to a product-driven structure that better served their international goals.

    Designing for a Premium International Brand

    To ensure the digital interpretation of the Hansa brand felt premium, we conducted international competitor research and developed a creative brief. Through mood boarding, we assessed colour usage, spacing, and photography styles to establish a minimalist aesthetic with large, bold imagery. The final designs were prototyped and tested to ensure the experience gave website users exactly what they needed.

    A Global, Multi-site WordPress Build

    Our developers built a global multisite on WordPress, hosted on AWS. We used Polylang to provide multi-language and multi-region capabilities, allowing Hansa to tailor content for New Zealand, Australia, and Europe, while ensuring compliance with local regulations like GDPR cookie notices. The site integrates a Google Maps-powered dealer locator and includes custom integrations with Hansa's in-house CRM for product enquiries. We also configured WooCommerce, setting the stage for their future e-commerce ambitions.

    An Evolving Partnership for Ongoing Growth

    The initial launch was just the beginning. We continue to help Hansa refine and enhance the website. For example, we recently implemented significant adjustments to their UK homepage, adding new interactive panels and product carousels based on their monitoring of user personas and categories. This ongoing partnership ensures the website continues to evolve and meet their strategic marketing needs.
