As the commercial arm of Waikato-Tainui, Tainui Group Holdings (TGH) manages an extensive and diverse investment portfolio. However, their technology was not keeping pace. Operating with separate IT systems across four offices and three server domains, IT management was time-consuming and inefficient. Staff struggled to find information quickly, and document duplication was common.

Recognising the need for change, TGH sought a modern technology partner who could provide a strategic path forward, moving beyond traditional on-premise solutions to embrace the flexibility and security of the public cloud.

    A Strategic Foundation: The ICT Infrastructure Review

    Our partnership began with a comprehensive ICT Infrastructure Review. We performed a detailed review of TGH's systems, conducted stakeholder interviews to understand their challenges, and delivered a 'future state' architecture design. This initial strategic work provided a clear and robust roadmap for their entire cloud transformation, ensuring every engineering decision was fit for purpose.

    Delivering a Resilient and Secure AWS Platform

    With the roadmap established, our engineers executed a full migration of TGH's core infrastructure to Amazon Web Services (AWS). On-premise servers were decommissioned, and their workloads were moved to EC2 instances strategically spread across multiple availability zones to ensure high availability and resilience. We also enhanced their business continuity planning by configuring AWS Workspaces as a cost-effective "standby" remote access solution, and designed a secure, externalised logging solution.

    Enabling a Modern Workplace with Microsoft 365

    To tackle the productivity challenges, our team engineered the migration to Microsoft 365. This involved moving the entire organisation to Exchange Online and establishing a modern workplace foundation using SharePoint and Microsoft Teams. We designed and implemented a new governance structure and architecture for their document management, providing a centralised, secure, and easily accessible platform for all company files and data. This directly addressed the long-standing issues of document duplication and inefficiency, enabling staff to collaborate more effectively.
