The New Zealand public sector is at a critical juncture, facing the dual challenge of delivering enhanced services with tightening budgets amidst escalating security threats. At the recent New Zealand Government Data Summit 2025, Dynamo6 and Google Chrome presented a clear path forward, showcasing how a strategic approach to technology can unlock significant cost savings, productivity gains, and a more resilient future for government agencies.
Responding to the call from The Hon. Judith Collins for agencies to find innovative cost-saving solutions, Helaman Tangiora, Digital Transformation Director at Dynamo6, shared the compelling findings from a Productivity Suite Review conducted with Inland Revenue.

The analysis revealed that by strategically adopting Google Workspace and ChromeOS, the agency could achieve staggering potential savings: an estimated $2.1 million annually in licence subscription fees and $3.6 million in device costs over three years. These savings stem from reduced IT administration, lower hardware costs, and significant boosts in user productivity. Building on this foundation, Neal French, Director of Chrome Enterprise Sales JAPAC, explored the "technology supercycle" we are now entering. He explained that AI, particularly generative AI tools like Gemini in Google Workspace, is poised to revolutionise public sector productivity by automating routine tasks and providing intelligent insights from complex data.
Crucially, he addressed the vulnerability of traditional systems, positioning the secure, cloud-native architecture of ChromeOS as a more resilient alternative. For IT leaders constrained by time and the "normalcy bias" that hinders change, the message was clear: a fundamental rethink of end-user computing is no longer optional, but essential for a future-proofed organisation.
